Campo do Bella provides a unique Farm to Table experience. Located near Mt Horeb southwest of Madison, WI join others for a Friday night cenetta (romantic dinner) at Campo di Bella winery. The winery combined with a sustainable farm produces a variety of its own ingredients. Run by a husband and wife team, Mary Ann and Marc Bellazzini, Campo di Bella has a wine bar/tasting area coupled with a small dining room and kitchen. They serve a wine bar menu on Fridays and Saturdays, host a set menu dinner (cenettas) on Friday nights, and Farm to Table communal dinners on Saturday nights. Ingredients not produced on the property are locally sources to the extent possible.
Dinners at the winery
The cenetta includes a salad, main course featuring a farm ingredient and dessert. Select from wine, not just from their winery, but a nice variety of white and red. Their inspiration is Italy expressed in the menu that Marc presents and in their winery and farm itself. On Friday’s, you make a reservation and pick a seating time. We arrived about 30 min early thinking we would explore the wine bar and have one of the bar menu offerings. We were greeted by the friendly family dog and fading sunset still illuminating the small building with a patio, flower, herb and vegetable gardens around it.
On a warm summer evening, the patio with its western view would be very romantic and beautiful. The dining room and bar are basically a one room affair with seating for approximately 30 guests (think private birthday party or family gathering!). A large group occupied much of the dining room but with staggered seatings it all worked. We loved the passion of Mary Ann as she described both the wines and the dishes as they were presented. Eggplant was the featured ingredient and the eggplant parmesan was flavorful and surprisingly light.
